As summer begins, the 'Thakara' by the Sukhashvili ensemble ignites once again with new dances, energy, and unique compositions. This experimental open space, supported by Bank of Georgia and SOLO, has been filling the audience with unforgettable impressions for the fifth year in a row.
For many years, the Georgian National Ballet 'Sukhashvili' has been writing a new history and is celebrating its 80th anniversary. In this public endeavor, the support from Bank of Georgia is crucial, as 'Thakara' symbolizes the ensemble's relentless movement, renewal, and leadership.
Here, the audience becomes part of the dance, feeling like 'Sukhashvili' for a brief moment as they observe the dancers' technique and mastery from a short distance.
As noted by Nina Sukhashvili, the open stage 'Thakara' was created during the pandemic, providing a totally free space for improvisation and experimentation. Initially, there were many challenges, but thanks to the audience's interest and the ensemble's efforts, the project became a reality.
Each season brings new programs, musical compositions, and staging ideas. After the season ends, some experimental dances turn into classics and become part of the ensemble's core repertoire.
The uniqueness of 'Thakara' performances comes from the music and costumes. The melodies created by Iliko Sukhashvili blend motifs from folklore and contemporary music.
This project is immensely popular among the Sukhashvili ensemble. They are determined to make the most of their 80th anniversary this year by offering new and diverse performances.
